MONOCHROMATIC DREAMS

7 min | color | 4k | stereo | 2021 | documentary

Media installation artist Yvette Mayorga produces mesmerizing work, using pink as a tool of discomfort to defy gender norms and anxieties of bodies in our current landscape.

“Monochromatic Dreams” is a short documentary that follows multimedia installation artist Yvette Mayorga as she produces work in her Chicago studio for an upcoming show at MASS Gallery in Austin, Texas. The film, which takes its title from the exhibit of the same name, was filmed over a period of a few months between late 2019 and early 2020.

Film Festivals:  This film premiered at Chicago International Film Festival and went on to screen internationally.

Screening Note: This film's production was unfortunately truncated by the Covid pandemic lockdown.  The directing team behind this consisting of Kristen Nutile (the best!) and JP Olsen (also the best!), was a real treat to work with. I met these two in Marfa, Texas (hence the "Met in Marfa" credit). So, I guess meeting in an artist community like Marfa, we were kind of destined to collaborate on this piece. I felt really lucky to film Yvette. There is no artist like her—like none. Being in her studio that was wall to wall pink was overwhelming and sensational every time.  If you can, go see an exhibition of her workyou'll feel lucky too.  FULL FILM HERE
