CATATONIC

9 min | color | 4k | stereo | 2019 | narrative

Cat Daddy feels completely betrayed when his cat, Charles Dickens, runs away. Naturally, the only solution is suicide. "It's meow or never..."

Film Festivals:  This film played all over the world, most notably at Boston Underground Film Festival, Chattanooga Film Festival, Videodrunk, Cine Underground, Nightmares Film Festival, and Athens International Film + Video Festival"Catatonic" won the "Cringetastic" Award at Sick'n'Wrong (now Bizarroland), an award for which I was really, really proud.  This particular award is for "the most cringe-worthy moment in a film", and this moment is all about that drippy kernel of corn. Another badge of honor is that this film is distributed on Troma NOWThis film hit festivals during the pandemic lockdown, and played all over, but I have never seen it with an audience:~(

Screening Note: I made this a few years after my cat, CLEETY, passed away and still thought about her every day. It was sad. I was sad. Then my friend who stars in the film, TIMMY RAMONE aka HONKEY CAT, sent me images of him wearing cat lingerie (used in the film!) when I was commuting to school one day to teach; I had the script written before I hopped off the train.  BTW, cast Timmy Ramone in your films; he's the best character actor in the whole history of time and space, not to mention very funny, very cool and fearless as can be. IMHO the soundtrack makes this film—just incredible work by incomparably cool cat, Mr. Tim Bales.
