AUDITION FOR DEATH

11 min | color | 2k | stereo | 2016 | experimental

Dying and grief surrounded in a world of darkness.

“Audition for Death” is an experimental documentary that explores the subject of death as portrayed on screen. Featuring ten Chicago-based actors, portions of their improvised performances were sculpted into an energy narrative that explores dying and grief in a world swallowed by darkness.

Film Festivals:  This film started off "hot" at the festivals, and then I made the mistake of letting a festival broker take over festival distribution. I was conned. However, before the broker it screened at Antimatter [Media Art], Indie Memphis Film Festival, Athens International Film + Video Festival, and Brooklyn Film Festival.

Screening Note: This was made five years after my dad passed away, and it's more art therapy than anything. I was lucky enough to have this amazing cast of Chicago actors help me bring the vision to life. When it screened at festivals, frankly it felt like a buzzkill and from that point on I vowed to make films I wanted to see in festival settings that wouldn't drag my soul through the muck. There is no film like this, and I'm proud to have made it, but yeah. FULL FILM HERE
