ARIELLE’S PINK LINE PARTY
77 min | color | 2k | stereo | 2017 | docu-fiction
You're invited!

It’s the hottest day of summer. A group of friends have gathered to celebrate Arielle Giselle Rogers’s birthday in a DIY space next to Chicago’s Pink Line “L” Train. Arielle requested her gift be a performance from each of her magnificently talented friends. Gorgiosity and glitter abound as burlesque dancers, drag queens, singers and performance artists gather to revel.

Welcome! Grab a cocktail and enjoy!

Screening Note: I love love love this docufiction film! We recreated a party a few months after Arielle's original birthday party, which was epic, that had a similar format to what you see on screen. We invited all the same performers and audience members. Even before filming, I realized we'd have music rights issues though I proceeded because everything was planned and paid for—and frankly, I was really excited about the prospect of this film and thought it was really important to try to capture the authentic vibe/experience of all these amazing/creative people in this beautiful Chicago community and let the chips fall where they may. A few days prior was the Orlando Pulse Nightclub Tragedy, as is referenced in a performance by Glamhag and another reason why films like this are ultimately important. One of my favorite things about film is that fact it's a time capsule, and this is definitely that. Hope you enjoy!
